I have had this for less than a week and everything else seems to be perfect but even though iplayer is listed and i can navigate to the channels screen it will not go any further.  Is there anything i can do about this as i really wanted this option on the player and am feeling more than a little cheated.  Bought from Freemans catalogue this week and have checked the firmware and it is up to date.

It seems I have the same problem.  I bought the player about 10 days ago and everything on it works perfectly except the BBC iPlayer which either shows an error or freezes when you try to watch a program.

Seems to be a problem with all Sony devices. My Sony TV has been fine for a year but about a week ago iplayer just stopped working. I also have a brand new Sony surround system , iplayer worked ok for a few weeks but now also will not work.

No idea why , it must be an incompatibility between iplayer and Sony devices. iplayer works fine on my PC and on my iphonbe using the same network so its definately a Sony problem.

Google throws up a number of other people with the same issue, so it is supposed to work but doesnt (any more)

I am having the same problem with my S480. It had been working perfectly for 6 months and I am going to have to try to get Sony to fix it. Judged by my previous skirmishes with Sony support this will be an uphill struggle.

For you guys who are still in the "return for a full refund" stage, if iPlayer is an important feature for you, you might consider requesting a refund and then buying one from another manufacturer. Difficult decision as these players are really good, and with a great iPlayer, until a couple of weeks ago.

Yes, it is something that the Beeb has done recently. Whether it's their fault or Sony's is impossible to tell.

In any event I contacted the BBC first, but they just played "pass the parcel" and blamed Sony.

I have the same problem with my S480.  Just bought it a few days ago and can't get iplayer to work.  Here's an interesting thing:

    - On the S480 youtube, Eurosport, livestrong.com etc work fine and streams without stopping or stuttering

    - But iplayer is unusable.  Completely unusable.  Takes about 3-4 mins to start a program and then buffers every 30 secs and takes minutes to buffer.

    However,

My Panasonic TV streams youtube AND iplayer beautifully.  I watched a whole episode of Call the midwife on iplayer without a single stutter.  I have a suspicion that the Panasonic TV connects to iplayer differently to the Sony.  It's only a hunch because the iplayer interface is very slightly different between the two (this after you are into iplayer and starting the program).

I am on O2 (Allrounder package) with the O2 wireless box IV router (Thomson TG587n v2).  There have been old posts elsewhere that have suspected O2/Be ISP and possibly also the router but my Panasonic works fine.

My line shows 11M download speed, 1M upload speed and 19ms ping time.

Unfortunately Sony support have "escalated my case to second level" and after doing that I've heard nothing from them for two days.  I have chased them but the usual scripted reply of your case is in a queue ...

    Also get this:

I have a friend who lives about 50 miles up the M1 from me and his Sony Blu rays stream iplayer fine.

I have the same problem on my BDP S480 but also not getting Demand5 either. Everything else (lovefilm etc) still works. Interesting that it seems to be just people on O2 broadband. Thing is we need to know who to raise the issue with: O2? BBC? or Sony?

I guess just hang on to see what response Catmambo gets from the Beeb...

    Hi

Nothing from BBC on Friday unfortunately - my regular contact is back on Monday so will call him then and chase.

EdinKent rasies a good point about support for these kind of issues - Its not entirely clear as there are so many parts to the chain, no one entity can resolve it by themselves  - we'll always make a best endeavours attempt to flag it with the right people even if the problem isn't actually caused by Sony.

    Thanks

It seems I have the same problem but on my week old BDVE 280. It all worked well for the first few days then the iplayer has decided stop working.  It now behaves the same as pattierb s BDP S480.

Please Sony/BBC sort it out, thank you

Yesterday I raised the problem with Sony support, but didn't get too far as it was late in the day and I think they all left work.... well, it was friday night afterall..

Anyway part of my trying to help them see the problem for themselves was to upload a video of how iplayer and Demand5 are behaving.

Take a look - it would be interesting to see if everyone is getting the exact same thing or if there are differences..

    http://vimeo.com/37385126

Its speeded up to more than twice real time because its like watching paint dry even on fast forward. But then, that's how annoying the problem is!
