Hi there,

Am looking to upgrade a friends hard drive, ive been given the code PCG-7Q1M off the bottom which they thought was the model no but may be the chassis?

Unfortunately I don't have access to it to check it or the HDD myself.

I just need to know if the HDD is IDE or SATA before I buy a replacement?

and if there is any maximum capacity set by the motherboard at all?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Hi gingaling and welcome.

I think you are going to need the correct Vaio Model to be sure.

The chassis model PCG-7Q1M is from a 14 inch laptop which means it is almost certainly a VGN-FJxx Series model.

These models were produced from 2006 with XP installed and I would guess it will have one of the first SATA drives with no 137GB size limit but you will need to find the exact model to confirm.

It certainly will not support the newer Advanced Format Drives so these are best avoided.

The correct model can usually be found on the screen surround in the bottom-right corner.
